Taking Care of Pregnant Skin

is, of course, a stressful time for all women, on many levels. Not the least of which is their skin.

With all the changes going on during pregnancy, there are a few things you can do to keep your skin looking and feeling its best.

Remember, when your skin looks good, you automatically feel better, too. Feeling good and looking good can help ease some of the stress of pregnancy.

To keep your pregnant skin looking its best, consider these tips:

  • Make sure your current skin care products are safe for use during pregnancy. Certain skin care products contain minerals, vitamins, or ingredients which may not be 100% safe for use during pregnancy. Check with your doctor if you are not sure. Remember, everything you put on your skin may be absorbed into your body.
  • Be open to making changes in your skin care routine. Your skin may change a great deal during pregnancy. Monitor these changes carefully and make appropriate adjustments to your skin care routine. For instance, if your skin suddenly gets more oily, consider switching to a slightly stronger cleanser to help tame breakouts. If your skin becomes more dry, add a thicker moisturizer to the mix. One tip: buy small bottles of new products rather than large size ones. Your skin may change before you've used up a large bottle of the product.
  • Minimize the time it takes to shower or bathe. Keeping your shower or bath time to a minimum can help your skin retain moisture.
  • Moisturize frequently. This will keep your skin intact, healthy, and supple. It can also help prevent stretch marks and itchiness.
  • Drink a lot of water. This will keep you well hydrated and skin healthy from the inside out.
  • Use sunscreen everyday. This can keep your skin from darkening in patches, known as the "mask of pregnancy".
  • Get help. Ask for help in moisturizing your back or your feet- these places need extra attention during pregnancy.
  • Wear loose clothing: As you approach your third trimester, make sure you wear cotton-based comfortable clothing. This will help keep rashes and irritations at bay.
  • Focus on calmness. Reduce your stress. This will have positive skin benefits.

These tips will offer you a great start to being skin healthy and beautifully .
