Summer Care for Oily Skin
Summer often means more time spent outdoors- in the sun, surf, and sand. Did you know, though, that high heat and humidity can almost double the amount of oil your skin produces?
This is a nightmare for those with oily skin, as sun exposure can increase the likelihood of a greasy face and clogged pores.
Here are some tips to soothe your oily skin during the summer:
Be sure to use a skin-appropriate astringent. Leave your cleanser on for just a few seconds longer to make sure you break down as much oil as possible.
Pay extra attention to cleansing around your hairline and on the edges of your face- oil can travel and settle in these areas.
Keep your body smooth and well toned by exfoliating twice a week with a salt or sugar scrub. (Be careful and rinse thoroughly, as these often contain oils which can make your bathtub slippery!)
Look for sunscreens which contain zinc or titanium oxide. These are able to provide a physical block to your skin without increasing its feelings of oiliness or greasiness.
With a few product adjustments and an extra focus on cleansing, you can help your oily skin make it through the summer without suffering extra breakouts.
